Showing mathematical "work"

One important aspect that math teachers in the regular classroom use to grade homework turned in involves following a student's "work," or the specific steps a student used to solve a particular problem. Since there is no reasonably inexpensive, compatible software in existence that allows this to be easily done on-line, CLASS™ courses provided very limited opportunity for students to show their work on graded exams and assignments.

E-mail correspondence, with the limitations of the standard keyboard, was really the only option for a student to show the teacher how a particular math problem was solved. Hence, graded answers are either right or wrong, no matter what effort was given in solving the problem. This is a limitation that on-line teachers and learners must deal with until an appropriate software programs are developed.
