Challenges in the Language Courses

Language courses present a unique set of problems in an Internet environment. First of all, you need to have lots of sound files. Video, although not a necessity, is highly desirable—preferably video filmed in the countries where the language is spoken. A way for students to tape and hear their own voices and to send their recordings to the teacher is also highly beneficial. Language courses, by nature, require lots of graphics and pictures. To avoid “translating” and using the native language more than is absolutely necessary, graphics, photos, and interactive activities are used to represent the “new” vocabulary. Language courses require frequent interactive exercises to make sure students understand the points presented and have ample practice. Repetition of aspects of the target language is essential. Therefore, a good language course needs many interactive and/or self-check types of exercises.

Okay. That doesn’t sound so tough! What’s the problem?
