Quality Assurance Laboratory
In the fall of 1999 the CLASS™ project started a separate Quality
Assurance group. The group was headed by the Quality Assurance Coordinator,
and it consisted of several individuals who were hired specifically
to test all courses on both Mac and PC computers, using different operating
systems and Netscape and Internet Explorer as browsers.
The Quality Assurance Coordinator established a database tracking
system of all errors in the courses. The Quality Assurance lab performed
the following steps for each course:
- Checking the course against the original script,
- Reading through
the courses for editorial errors,
- Testing the CLASS™ course
installation program,
- Checking all external and internal links in
the course,
- Checking the course with different operating systems,
platforms, and browsers,
- Documenting "bugs" (errors) on
a spreadsheet for fixes and QA records,
- Consulting with the course
development team about changes and corrections,
- Routing "bug
reports" to Nebraska Educational Telecommunications
(NET) for production corrections and changes,
- Tracking the progress
of "bug" fixes,
• Verifying all changes and corrections,
• Re-testing when the course is revised,
• Running regular web link checks, and
•
Investigating any reported errors or "bugs,"
In addition to these duties, the QA lab assisted the content and design
teams by:
- Searching for web links and pictures for new courses,
- Assisting
with special projects within the department,
- Mapping courses to (48
of 50) state educational standards,
- Archiving course documentation,
- Archiving assessment keys for courses,
- Archiving QA records,
- Archiving standards for CLASS-developed courses
mapped to Nebraska and National Standards,
- Archiving the core courses
mapped to the other state standards,
- Scheduling regular web link checks,
- Scheduling regular course update
checks,
- Tracking computer software for the department,
- Updating the inventory
of department computer equipment,
