The Standards Matching Process
Once it was established that all of the CLASS™ courses needed
to be evaluated with respect to all of the states' standards and the
Quality Assurance (QA) group became primarily responsible for this
task, CLASS™ Project hired several teachers on a temporary basis
to complete the actual matching, or mapping, process.
- Find the standards for every state: The website for each state's
Department of Education generally contained a link to that state's
educational standards. In addition, the website www.statestandards.com provided another key resource.
- Prepare a spreadsheet containing each
state's standards: The clerical staff listed each state's standards
on individual spreadsheets for
the state and the subject area.
- Assign teacher mappers to core subject
areas: The teacher mappers were assigned courses in one of the four
core areas: math, science, social
studies, and English/language arts. While the spreadsheets were being
prepared, the teachers reviewed the CLASS™ courses in their
core area.
- Map to state standards: Mappers began the matching process
for the targeted state, often using the designers' evaluations (Nebraska
and Federal) as a starting point.
- Complete state mapping documents for class.com: When mappers finished a state, the information was checked, double
checked, and copied
for CLASS™ and forwarded to class.com.
