Opening Page – Splash Screen

The opening page of a course is called the “splash screen.” The splash screen serves as a visual introduction and also as a navigation map for the course. Splash screens can be used to set the stage for a course with a story line (metaphor), or they can help spark interest in the course. Some of the splash screens contain video and/or audio or flash animations. On this splash screen, the coffee steam rises, and the CAFÉ sign flashes like a neon sign. It’s an eye-catcher and an invitation to some fun learning inside the course!

When students enter the course, through the ‘Begin Course’ button on the left-hand navigation bar they come to a visual map that links them to the units in the course.

The Business and Personal Protocol splash screen features a flashing “rubic’s cube” that forms the basis of course navigation.

Clicking on the ‘Begin Course’ button on the left-hand toolbar leads to a visual map that students can use to go to the units in the course.

The ‘Unit 1’ link on the visual map leads to the introductory video on the first page of the Business and Personal Protocol course.

The “Go to Where I Left Off” button will take a student to the same page of the course they were on when they ended their
last session.
