Detailed Content Treatment - CLASS™
Definition
The step after the Final Prospectus and before the Final Script is
to detail the content treatment. This outline will give the curriculum
writer and media writer a solid foundation on which to write a script.
Once the Detailed Content Treatment is approved, there will need to
be a change order to add or subtract anything (e.g., types, assessments,
media elements). It is a point-of-no-return for the amount of work
required to produce the product.
Elements
The team of Instruction Design Specialists, Instructional Designers,
Production Manager, content developer, and writer(s) will take the
outline from the Prospectus and write descriptions under each heading.
This description should include one or two sentences for each of the
following:
-
Content
- Blending Content and Metaphor
- Once the content is developed, the
media writers refine the metaphor and media elements. Careful examination
of the metaphor and content
need to be made so they work well together. The motivations for
ht metaphor should always in inline with the overall content
objectives.
This is where problems can be identified and addressed before writing
occurs.
- Metaphors with characters require fully developed character
sketches.
- Stories require fully developed plots with all elements.
- Textual
approach – what happens and style (conversation,
dialog, first, second, third person, etc.)
- Desired Media Elements
(overall desires – not final versions)
• Video
• Audio
• Graphics
• Assessments and activities
- Scripting – The ‘media’ and ‘content’ should
be addressed separately. This supposes that the majority of
writers are not skilled at both content and media. The content
should
be developed, as much as possible, void of preconceived metaphor. Content
writer can or should offer suggestions for treatment, but that
is best
left to the design team. The Detailed Content Treatment will serve as
the
blueprint for the script. The media writers will write the
script adhering to the Detailed Content Treatment.
- Visual and
Conceptual Design Plan – An artist /media
designer and a producer are included to determine the visual
and conceptual
design.
- Page Layout
- Course Specific Navigation
- Visual Treatment (backgrounds,
repeated elements, special buttons, characters, etc.)
- Production
