Course Descriptions

Course descriptions need to be written for the bulletin and for other sales and promotion purposes. CLASS™ designers tried to keep the bulleted list of objectives to under a dozen. Here's an example:

American Government

In this web-enabled course, students will learn about the government of the United States; how it functions, how citizens participate in American politics, and will also discover some of the basic theories and beliefs that have guided the development of American government since the late 1700s. For students who are American citizens, this course will help them discover their rights and responsibilities as members of American society. This course will also shed some light on just how the local, state, and national governments interact.

With the completion of this course, the students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the major forms of government existing in the world today.
  • Explain the major ideas and concepts that form the basis of the American democratic system of government.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the important rights and freedoms granted to the American people by the United States Constitution.
  • Analyze the roles played by political parties, pressure groups, and individuals in the politics of a democratic society.
  • Explain the organization and powers of the national government and the state governments.
