Advanced Composition: A Window on the World
Course Description: In this upper-level, advanced composition course offered via the Web, students learn to write in many styles. They learn the major steps of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, peer review, and revision. Students identify audiences, generate topics, organize information, and edit and hone effective writing techniques. Students build a portfolio and learn to critique the work of others. Basic computer skills are recommended.

American Literature 1: Diversity in American Literature - XRoads
Course Description: In this interactive American literature course offered via the Web, students explore the themes of technology, language, illusion, and independence. Students read culturally diverse selections, within such differing genres as the essay, short story, novel, historical writings, and poetry. Through multimedia presentations, selections provide vocabulary enrichment, textual insights, and audio readings of excerpts to enhance the learning experience. Students will develop critical thinking and writing skills by taking quizzes, completing creative projects, and sharing their thoughts in newsgroups, or one-on-one with the teacher or other students. Basic computer skills are recommended.

American Literature 2: Diversity in American Literature - Hard Cover Cafe
Course Description: Students explore American literature about nature, ethnicity, gender, culture, family, and identity in this course offered via the Web. The selections offer diverse perspectives in history, culture, class, geography, age, gender, and sexual orientation. Literature of various genres (short story, novel, poetry, autobiography, testimony, nonfiction) guides students to a better understanding of people from many cultural backgrounds. Students develop critical as well as creative thinking, writing, and communication strategies and skills as they examine the literary treatment of human relations in a multicultural society. Creative and analytical writing projects, vocabulary terms, newsgroup contributions, and self-guided activities enhance the learning process. Basic computer skills are recommended.

Beginning Composition: A Writing Roadtrip
Course Description: In this interactive beginning composition course offered via the Web, students visit six "Roadstops" in a nonlinear fashion. At each "Roadstop," the students explore a different type of writing. A variety of short activities at each "Roadstop" prepare students for longer writing projects. When students have completed all the requirements at each "Roadstop," they head to their "Final Destination" where they revise two of their writing projects. Students have the opportunity to participate in peer review and to interact with their teacher via the Web. Basic computer skills are recommended.
Reading Comprehension - V2
Reading Comprehension: Reading Mega Mall
Course Description: In this course offered via the Web, students read from a wide variety of materials to improve their literacy skills and gain an appreciation of a variety of literary genres. They develop a personal plan for increasing word knowledge and for gaining and using effective reading strategies to improve comprehension and learning. Students interact with their teacher and other students on the Web. Students may select among many different books throughout the course. Basic computer skills are recommended.

Multicultural Literature
Course Description: In this Web-enabled course, students will read several good and interesting works of fiction. Through the reading, students will meet young people whose lives and cultures are different from their own. They will have the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of other young people and their ways of life and, perhaps, a greater appreciation for different perspectives and approaches to life. Basic computer skills are recommended.
World Literature I
World Literature 1: In Search of Self
Course Description: In this upper-level course, offered via the Web, students explore the universal nature of spiritual and intellectual needs for love, justice, integrity, knowledge, and acceptance. Students acquire a vocabulary of literary criticism and convention by examining literary selections in their historical and cultural perspectives. The literary techniques of the classic authors are studied and analyzed with a focus on critical analysis. Students complete notebook activities, participate in newsgroup discussions and complete a formal writing project. Basic computer skills are recommended.
