CLASS™ Funding

Funding for the CLASS™ Project came primarily from the federal Department of Education, Star Schools Program. More information is provided below.

U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) – The University of Nebraska – Lincoln received $15 million from the Star Schools program, in 1996, to create and develop an online high school diploma sequence. This was a five-year win with the first year of funding beginning October 1, 1996. The Star Schools Program is funded through the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) which is part of the USDOE.

General Services Administration Fund (GSA) – In March 1996, the University received $2.5 million from the GSA for proof of concept. Four courses in the areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies were created.

The JASON Foundation provided $100,000 of a federal grant to the CLASS™ Project to develop an Oceanography course.
